Yet, most small and medium-sized accommodation businesses across the Mediterranean struggle to keep up. They often lack the resources, know-how, or technical tools needed to meet sustainability standards. Existing certification schemes tend to be too complicated or expensive for smaller operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SMAC addresses this gap by developing a simple and affordable model that helps these enterprises take practical, gradual steps toward sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Objectives<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Develop a Simplified Sustainability Model for Accommodation (SSMA) that MSMEs can adopt and implement step-by-step<\/li><li>Build an AI Recommendation Tool (AIRET) providing customised guidance and sustainability action plans<\/li><li>Train a pool of certified sustainability mentors able to assist accommodation businesses across the Mediterranean.<\/li><li>Test and refine the model through pilot implementations in real MSMEs<\/li><li>Formulate policy recommendations to integrate sustainability practices into regional and national tourism policies<\/li><li>Establish long-term collaboration through the SMAC Network and OER-LLAB Platform (Open Educational Resource \u2013 Living Lab)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Main Outputs<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>SSMA Tool \u2013 a practical framework and indicators for sustainability in accommodation<\/li><li>AIRET Platform \u2013 an AI-driven decision-support system suggesting improvement measures<\/li><li>Mentor Training Package &amp; Registry \u2013 transnational training for sustainability experts<\/li><li>Pilot Implementations \u2013 35 accommodation MSMEs testing the model<\/li><li>Policy Recommendation Paper \u2013 proposing policy alignment with ESG principles<\/li><li>SMAC Network &amp; Platform \u2013 continuous cooperation, learning, and visibility<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Who Benefits<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Accommodation MSMEs gain a clear roadmap to start their sustainability journey.<\/li><li>Tourism professionals &amp; mentors enhance their expertise and employability.<\/li><li>Policy makers &amp; authorities receive data-driven recommendations for sustainable tourism governance.<\/li><li>Local communities &amp; tourists benefit from greener, more responsible tourism services.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Expected Impact<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By making sustainability achievable for small tourism operators, SMAC strengthens their competitiveness, reduces environmental pressures, and encourages innovation across the Mediterranean tourism sector.
